Every year, millions of people think of their own New Year’s resolutions to change their lives and become the person they’ve always wanted to be. Sadly, many of those resolutions go unfulfilled as the year goes on. Here are some tips about the most common resolutions to help you get through the year with your goals intact. You’re not going to let yourself forget your resolutions, become unmotivated, or go into the new year unprepared!
Stick to those resolutions and claim 2019 as your own.
There’s no way you can stick to your resolutions this year if you forget what they are by the time summer comes along. Write out your goals and put them in a visible place. Or, for a more persistent reminder of how dedicated you are to your resolutions, try writing them out on a piece of paper in pretty calligraphy, taking a picture, and making your goals your phone’s lock screen. What time is it? Time to stick to the goals you’ve set for yourself.
If you’d like to get focused this year, head out and buy a 2019 daily planner. This cute little helper from Day Designer has two formats, Today and To-Do, so that you can track what you have planned for the day and what you want to get done at the same time. The mini version is small enough to pop in your purse for on-the-go planning. If writing isn’t quite your style, your smartphone or computer is sure to have a calendar where you can plan out your days, weeks, or even months and set reminders for important events and deadlines throughout the year.
If getting fit is at the top of your resolutions list this year, try starting with small goals and work your way up to being the fitness guru you know you can be. You can start by looking the part—update your athletic wardrobe so that you look as great as you’ll feel at the end of the year. Don’t forget about choosing running shoes that fit your lifestyle and take your outfit to the next level. The best thing about cute leggings and trendy shoes is that they double as athleisure, so really you’re transforming two closets at once.
Stay on top of your workout by downloading some fitness apps on your smartphone or tablet. These programs can help with anything, from tracking your progress, sending you encouraging messages, to ensuring you’re getting the best night’s sleep you could possibly have. Once you’re prepared to stay on track, start with some beginner level exercises, like an entry-level yoga class or a basic HIIT workout routine. The first step towards a healthier life is always the hardest, so it’s especially important to start out with achievable goals and work your way up to your peak performance.
Finally, look over your eating habits and see if there are any trouble areas you can fix. Are you addicted to carbs like chips and bread? Can’t get enough sugar in cookies and ice cream? Everyone deserves to indulge, but if you treat yourself with unhealthy foods every day, it loses its impact of rewarding you for a job well done. Try eating smaller meals throughout the day and using the treats you can’t get enough of to congratulate yourself when you stick to your workout routine for the week.
You can also ask your family and friends for help when you’re feeling down. Make your diet something to look forward to. Taking a family trip to the farmers market and cooking a nice meal at home together is a great way to promote bonding and lets you get to know your kids a little better. You could also center your meal around a fruit or vegetable you’ve never tried before and invite your friends over for a themed dinner party. Chances are, someone you know and love is also trying to change their eating habits in 2019. Ask around and see if any of your friends or family would like to transform their diet with you so that you can help each other commit to a healthier life.
You know yourself better than anyone. Use these tools to become the best person you can be and stick to your resolutions in 2019.
